The U.S. Department of Justice is preparing to file an antitrust lawsuit against Alphabet Inc, Google's company, on Tuesday for allegedly breaking the law by abusing its dominant market position vis-à-vis its competitors, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The lawsuit is expected to allege that Google violated the law by the way it treated rivals in its search and advertising businesses, to protect its domain in Internet searches (where it controls 90% of the US market) and to use that power to sell more advertising.

This is the largest monopoly lawsuit in the United States in decades.

Google has not yet offered any comment.

The lawsuit is the first phase of what is shaping up to be a multi-pronged attack on Google.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is preparing a complaint against the company for its conduct in the digital advertising market, where it controls much of the technology used by advertisers and publishers to buy and sell ads on the web.
