There are a dozen foreign airlines that requested permission from the Government to make flights to Ezeiza as of November 1, but

the vast majority still do not have permits

to land on Argentine soil, despite the fact that there are only three days to go. the date.

This was pointed out by sources in the sector and it was confirmed even by the Government itself, where they said that authorizations cannot be issued without the prior "consent" of the Ministry of Health.

The situation even generated an "urgent" request from the

International Airline Association (IATA).

International flights continue to maintain their category of

"special"

instead of regular, due to the pandemic, so they must be authorized one by one by the aeronautical authority, in charge of the

National Civil Aviation Administration (ANAC

).

During the last four months, although the "special" category had not been changed, the body headed by

Paola Tamburelli

authorized several foreign airlines with enough

anticipation

to sell tickets as

if they were regular flights

.

The first was the international partners

Air France-KLM

, which each began to make two weekly flights to Ezeiza since July.

With this modality, in the weeks that followed, airlines such as

Iberia, Air Europa, Lufthansa

and the American

American Airlines

were added, among others

, which since last month has made one flight per day.

But now the authorizations

were stopped

: until Wednesday night, there were pending orders for new special flights starting this Sunday from

British Airways, LATAM and Turkish

.

Other airlines that want to fly into the country are

Boliviana de Aviación, Lufthansa, Sky, Air France / KLM, United and Aeroméxico

.

"There are three days left and by Wednesday night only

Ethiopian and Air Europa

had been authorized

," said a manager of one of the companies.

"In the case of those that operate flights from border countries, such as orders from

Boliviana or Sky

, they are still waiting for the Administrative Decision of the Chief of Staff, with which the Ministry of Health and the National Directorate of Migration to inform

the requirements for passengers

on these lines in particular, "he added.

Official sources admitted the situation, but attributed it to unresolved health issues.

"Flights cannot be authorized

without the consent of Health,

" they said.

On Tuesday, IATA had sent a letter to Tamburelli, the head of the ANAC.

“We are in contact with you

urgently,

as we have learned that to date the airlines have not received authorization from the special operations that they have requested for the month of November, being only 4 days from their completion. ”Says the letter.

“As you know, the operation of airlines requires specific preparation for their operational and commercial planning.

(…) In this sense, we require your collaboration to obtain the concepts and authorizations from the ANAC ”, added IATA.
