The Oetker Group takes over the beverage delivery service in a bottle.
The Oetker Group confirmed this to manager magazin on Monday.
According to the marketing portal OMR.de, the purchase price for the fast-growing but deficit beverage delivery service will be around one billion euros.
The Oetker Group is thus incorporating its biggest competitor to its own Durstexpress service.
The Radeberger Group, which belongs to Oetker, took an early interest in message in a bottle and negotiated an entry as early as 2016.
Instead, Oetker simply cloned the service.
Now Oetker has secured the original.
Message in a bottle delivers in 23 German cities and is growing rapidly.
According to OMR and deutsche-startups.de, the annual turnover this year should be 300 million euros (2018: 100 million).
However, the service is still very poor.
The start-up is currently burning 2.5 million euros a month.
The Oetker Group therefore pays a high price to secure direct access to customers.
