The imprisoned ex-Wirecard boss Markus Braun is ready to testify before the Bundestag investigative committee.
"Dr. Braun will testify before the investigative committee," said his lawyer Stephanie Vendt to the Reuters news agency when asked.
"In view of the existing health risks with regard to Covid 19, we have requested a video interview," she added.
First the "Handelsblatt" reported on the planned statement.
Braun is invited to the investigative committee in Berlin on Thursday as a witness that is supposed to clear up the payment service provider's financial scandal.
The Austrian is in custody in Augsburg.
Braun is accused of gang fraud, balance sheet falsification and market manipulation
Braun worked at Wirecard for 18 years.
After uncovering a € 1.9 billion balance sheet hole, he resigned in June, and the company went bankrupt.
The public prosecutor in Munich accuses Braun and other Wirecard managers of commercial gang fraud, falsification of accounts and market manipulation.
The investigators assume that Wirecard has been calculating for years with systematic air bookings and thus inflicted billions in losses on investors and banks.
The parliamentary committee of inquiry is supposed to clarify possible omissions in the handling of the federal government and its authorities like the Bafin with the Wirecard case.
The body was requested by the opposition factions of the Left, Greens and FDP.
He also wants to hear Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), Finance Minister Olaf Scholz (SPD) and Economics Minister Peter Altmaier (CDU).
