Economic activity fell 6.9% year-on-year in September, according to data released on Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC).

In relation to last month, the Monthly Estimator of Economic Activity (EMAE) showed an increase of 1.9%.

In the nine months of the year, the EMAE accumulated a fall of 11.9% compared to the same period in 2019.

In addition, the INDEC specified that "of the 15 economic sectors that make up the EMAE, 6 of them registered increases in the interannual comparison, among which the wholesale trade, retail trade and repairs stood out for their positive impact (+ 5.8% year-on-year ) and Manufacturing Industry (+ 2.2% year-on-year), on the other hand, those that most affected the fall were Transport and communications (-19.0% year-on-year) and Other community, social and personal services activities (-50, 0% year-on-year).


In August and despite the easing of the quarantine and the reopening of various activities, economic activity had fallen 11.6% in the year-on-year comparison.

There had been an evolution of the economy compared to the previous month, with a slight rise of 1.1%, "continuing with the recovery of part of the accumulated retraction in the March-April period", when the quarantine hit with greater force .
