Macron announcements: relieved but worried, businesses prepare to reopen

2020-11-25T13:22:57.389Z

Emmanuel Macron announced that all stores will be able to welcome customers again from Saturday, November 28. Sufficient for

He hesitated to bring a musician to celebrate the reopening of his store on Saturday morning, but this was not reasonable from a health point of view, he finally gave it up.

"So I will reopen in a classic way, but in a good mood", rejoices Michel Lamy, manager of Plastic Soul Records, the oldest record store in Paris.

Over, the dark period of this second confinement, during which he lost "97%" of his usual turnover.

And welcome to the many customers he knows who will come to see him again.

This Tuesday evening, the Head of State announced that non-essential businesses, which have lowered the curtain since October 30, will open their doors this Saturday.

But not restaurants and sports halls, which could welcome customers again only on January 20 if the health situation improves.

Until then, they can benefit, like the 200,000 companies still administratively closed, from new aid.

For toy stores, florists, hairdressing salons and other bookstores, a reinforced health protocol will have to be put in place from Saturday to welcome the public and the opening hours could be extended “until 9 pm”.

Confinement: shops and places of worship reopen on Saturday

Michel Lamy has already planned to postpone the closing of his store, "from 8 pm to 9 pm or even 10 pm".

Emma Sokolow is also considering it for her four hair salons.

But the business manager is worried: the gauge of 8m2 per customer is difficult to maintain.

“We usually welcome 20 clients at the same time in a 50m2 salon,” she explains.

There, we should in theory have six with, for some, very long waiting times for color poses for example.

We will reopen, of course, but there will be no benefit… ”At Bercy, we are assured that“ flexibility ”will be granted, without however providing details on the businesses concerned or not by the number of square meters finally authorized.

"Will the December sales be enough to save 2020?"

"

Not enough to reassure Frédéric Romero, the owner of three game stores in Paris and in the Evry 2 shopping center. In his shop in the 5th arrondissement, he estimates that with the gauge, he "will have 2 to 3 customers in the store. , against 15 traditionally before Christmas.

Rather than waiting thirty minutes outside in the cold, they will shop on the Internet.

"If he is so worried, it is because his November turnover is catastrophic:" the click and collect only works for the inhabitants of the district, but we have a lot of customers in the suburbs, he confides. .

By providing 10 to 15% of the usual turnover, it has not even made it possible to cover expenses.

"

The others are also concerned.

Michel Lamy, the record store, has already planned to spend the beginning of December filling out forms to try to obtain all or part of the 10,000 euros from the solidarity fund.

Emma Sokolow, the hairdresser, knows she won't be entitled to it.

His company, incorporated as a holding company, cannot benefit from it.

And if Bercy ensures that the case of holding companies "is under study", the head of the company must for the moment be organized without a euro of aid.

"For the moment I'm still holding up," she slips.

But in the event of a third confinement?

"We are not there, in the current period, we must move step by step," says Emmanuel Le Roch, the general delegate of Procos, which represents 60,000 stores.

Johan Petiot, director of the Alliance du commerce, wonders, however: "The question that everyone is asking with this new gauge is: will the December sales be enough to save Christmas and the year 2020?
