The aeronautical unions have a long history of divisions and detachments that began

, when the Austral pilots left the

Pilots Association

(APLA

) to join the Pilots Union (

UALA

).

Now they are initiating a movement

in the opposite direction

, in tune with

the absorption of Austral by Aerolineas:

APLA, the union headed by Pablo Biró, has just participated in the Austral pilots to

return to the union of origin

.

"Given the imminent integration of the workers of Austral and Aerolineas Argentinas, we are making progress in the process so that the pilots today represented by UALA

can join APLA in an orderly manner as of December,

" said APLA, in an internal communication .

The agreement between the two pilot unions was part of a

laborious negotiation

that is the

hard core

of the merger between Aerolineas and Austral, the main objective being carried out today by the head of Aerolineas,

Pablo Ceriani

.

Although the merger is presented as a policy to reduce costs (in Aerolineas they assure that it could generate a saving of

US $ 100 million per year

), the most difficult part of the agreement was

how to integrate Austral pilots

, who fly Embraer aircraft,

with the Airlines

, which fly single-aisle Boeing B737 and double-aisle Airbus A330 aircraft.

The hard fact is that it is not a merger, but that

APLA will absorb the Austral pilots' union,

who are just over 300, who, beyond their job destination,

will keep their remuneration intact

.

“In recent days we held meetings with the UALA Board of Directors and delegates from Aerolineas Argentinas and Austral.

In this framework, we dealt with different aspects to continue working in the unit of the Argentine pilots, understanding that we had an unprecedented challenge ahead of us (…) thus we

reached the labor merger agreement

signed on October 2 ”, adds the internal communication of APLA. "
