LE BUREAULOGUE - Every Friday, Le Figaro invites you to meet a “cliché” character who poisons or enlivens the corporate world.

"The impostor syndrome

," said an eminent comrade whose name I will not mention, "

is a balloon that is very easy to pierce since we are absolutely all concerned ..."

Seen like this, it is quite simple to play down in the face of this feeling of imposture which is a very common thing.

This is the great existential question of professional life: am I in my place?

Do I have merit in what I do?

Am I working enough?

Above all, it is the custard tart of our time and a real and big question: am I useful to society?

Does my job make sense?

If not, do I have the courage to change my life?

Do I really want to?

These are all subjects for meditation.

Imagine the dizzying scenario in which everyone, overnight, decides to change their life to find an answer to this existential question ... It would be a nice subject for reflection for any aspiring prospectivist - or anticipatory novelist - .

But the reality is stubborn!

The impostors are still there among us.

Who are they ?

What exactly is an impostor?

Someone who obviously has not found his way and who is - or feels - illegitimate in a place that is not his.

In

Le Syndrome de imposture

(Gallimard, 2005), essayist Belinda Cannone explored the subject.

In the office, what does the impostor look like?

To Mr. or Mrs. Everybody, obviously.

Most of the time, he is very good at concealing both his imposture and the feeling that goes with it.

Especially since an impostor is not necessarily incompetent or a slacker!

It is quite possible not to feel out of place and to do your job with

bona fide

.

The most comfortable situation for the impostor is to hold a position of power.

Not only is he quieter there, but he lets others work: one of the favorite occupations is delegating!
