Sports halls are calling for their reopening from January 4

2020-12-02T05:23:50.581Z

The standoff continues: a demonstration by professionals in the sector is scheduled for Saturday, December 12, in Paris, to increase the pressure on the executive.

Put aside for the moment, the sports halls do not disarm.

While they saw their hopes of a rapid reopening collapse during Emmanuel Macron's speech at the beginning of last week, these professionals are indignant at the authorities' choice to consider them as places conducive to the spread of the Covid-19 and call for an early resumption of activity.

In a press release sent on Tuesday, the representative union of theaters, FranceActive, castigates the “

peremptory

decision

of the executive and recalls that no “

cluster was found in sports halls during their opening period

”.

In addition, drastic health protocols validated by the health authorities had allowed members to practice their sport while limiting the risks, argues the organization.

FranceActive protests against government policy and more particularly against the recent words of Emmanuel Macron and Jean Castex.

In his last speech, the tenant of the Élysée had explained that the sports halls would not reopen before January 20, and only “

if the number of contaminations remains below 5,000 cases per day

”.

A few days later, Jean Castex clarified the executive's plans and added that certain activities, including sports halls, would be kept closed longer "

because they present a more proven health risk, in particular because wearing the mask or respect for barrier gestures are not completely possible

”.

Contesting this last point, FranceActive calls for the early reopening of sports halls, from January 4 instead of the 20th. A more significant change than it seems, the month of January being, with that of September, one the most important times of the year for these activities.

"

A reopening as announced by the President on January 20 would precipitate the bankruptcy of many already very weakened companies

", completes the organization, which underlines that the sector is already recording cumulative losses of "

more than 1.28 billion euros

".

Call to demonstrate in Paris mid-December

To achieve its ends, FranceActive intends to maintain the pressure on the executive by calling for demonstrations on Saturday, December 12, in Paris.

A letter was also sent to the "

public authorities

" to ask the authorities, and in particular the Ministers of Health and Sport to participate in the reopening of the rooms, in January, in order to send a reassuring message to customers on safety. health of these establishments.

This new offensive by professionals consolidates the standoff that was established several months ago with the State.

Legal proceedings, appeals, forums, demonstrations ... The rooms have tried everything to obtain their reopening, challenging, each time, the merits of the obligation to lower the curtain.

At the end of November, FranceActive had already called on its members to swell the processions of restaurateurs, also engaged in a long-standing conflict with the State.

"

It is with amazement, indignation and anger that the operators of sports and leisure facilities emerge from the presidential speech last night

", exclaimed the union.

The negotiations started so far between the players in the file have never been successful, and the situation remains blocked.

Enough to boil the sector, which begins this new round, ready to do battle.
