Closure of the Zugspitze ski area: "The whole thing will be a complete chaos"

Skiers can stow their boards again - at least in Germany the lifts are idle. A disaster, says the head of the Bavarian Zugspitzbahn, Matthias Stauch. Not just for cable car operators.

Matthias Stauch,

59, has been a board member of Bayerische Zugspitzbahn Bergbahn AG since the end of 2019.

He is also chairman of the German Cable Car Association (VDV), which represents 122 operators.

The Bavarian Zugspitzbahn operates, among other things, the Zugspitze ski area, the highest in Germany (up to 2700 meters), with six chair lifts and drag lifts on the Zugspitzplatt.

It can be reached with the cog railway from Garmisch and a large cable car from the Zugspitz summit stations.

The Zugspitze cable car from Eibsee, which opened in 2017, and the Tyrolean Zugspitzbahn cable car from Ehrwald from the Austrian side lead there.

"It would have been nice if a European regulation had been managed"
