The spokesman for the International Monetary Fund,
Gerry Rice
, responded this morning about the recent statements of Foreign Minister
Felipe Solá
about an executive of the organization and about the state of
negotiations with Argentina
.
As for the first, he pointed out dryly that
"I have nothing to say
.
"
Rice said that this is a matter that the authorities of the Argentine and US governments should express.
Solá had said on Monday that one of the topics that Alberto Fernández and Joe Biden discussed that day had been
“the good will of the director of the United States at the IMF.
Currently we are not having much luck in that sense, "
in statements to Radio con Vos. The next day,
Martín Guzmán
and
Sergio Chodos
took a smiling photo with
Mark Rosen
and in an attitude opposite to what the chancellor had transmitted.
The truth is that the Ministry of Economy was upset with Solá's public statements.
A mission of the economic team will be negotiating in Washington in the next few hours the details of the Extended Facilities agreement that Guzmán intends to agree to before April when a maturity with the Paris Club falls.
Rice, in this regard said this morning, that
“The talks are continuing, there is no precise timetable for an agreement.
We are in close contact while the authorities work to shore up political and social support ”
.
The spokesperson added that the Board of Executive Directors does not have to meet for Argentina either.
In the framework of the negotiations with the International Monetary Fund, Martín Guzmán held a key working meeting on Tuesday within the exchanges that are taking place with the organization: he met with the executive director of the United States before the Fund, Mark Rosen .
Sergio Chodos, Argentine representative in Washington, also participated in the meeting.
Chodos flew to the United States that same day.
He is already there and the rest of the Economy team will join him tomorrow to continue the talks.
Argentine officials in Buenos Aires and the United States confirmed that Solá's words did not go down well in the Economy.
Guzmán and Chodos are zealously conducting negotiations with the IMF and do not look favorably on statements made by members of the Government that could hinder the line of work.
Is that the body requires that there is a single interlocutor at the negotiating table.
Economy expects the agreement to be ready within the first quarter of 2021.
