Arrested on Friday by opponents of the contested project of setting up a huge Amazon logistics base in Fournès, a village in the Gard, LREM deputy Anthony Cellier said he was "

Opponents had come in front of Mr. Cellier's office with signs "

" as part of a national day of action.

I'm not happy with the method (Amazon's note), with what it generated locally, with their lack of communication, their lack of explanations.
They are the ones who should lead the debate.
When you do not answer you give way to doubt, to rejection to anger,
”said the deputy for the constituency.
The latter received representatives of Attac and other associations opposed to the Fournès project, located near Pont-du-Gard, and to the development in France of the American giant of online commerce.
In the public inquiry and the official documents on the Fournès project, Amazon does not appear and it is only about Argan, specializing in the construction of logistics bases.
The meeting between the opponents and the deputy deemed favorable to the project was held in front of the press for more than an hour at midday and turned into a dialogue of the deaf.
Divergent positions
Attac-France spokesperson Raphaël Pradeau notably asked the Gard parliamentarian
"to vote in favor of a moratorium on e-commerce warehouses or to tell us why you are complicit in the development of Amazon on the territory knowing that Amazon destroys jobs, has a disastrous climate impact and massively practices tax evasion ”

Refusing to comment on his support or opposition to the Fournès project, he declared himself in favor of "
discussions in the National Assembly
" on the economic model of the American giant.
Locally, he felt that his role was “
to support
” the elected representatives of the Pont-du-Gard community of municipalities “
to decide with them about the future of their territory

It would be interesting for Amazon to get in touch with them,
” he concluded.

" said Mr. Pradeau for his part.
Opponents of the Fournès project are planning a day of action on January 30 on the 14 hectares concerned with the planting of 1,000 trees and a human chain to show the hold of the Amazon project.
