The Arab Center for the Studies of Arid Zones and Dry Lands "ACSAD" today began training twelve Syrian agricultural engineers and veterinarians from the General Authority for Scientific Agricultural Research on the latest scientific methods to improve the genetic characteristics of farm animals.

The five-day training program includes training on how to preserve and improve the breeds of local agricultural animals, their feeding bases, strengths, genetic characteristics, genetic measures of quantitative traits, a database of livestock, records, genetic bases for crossbreeding, genetic evaluation of animals, the most important diseases affecting agricultural animals, and the use of modern technologies in reproduction guidance.

The Director General of "ACSAD", Dr. Nasreddin Al-Obaid, said in a statement to SANA that the training comes within the programs of ACSAD Organization to raise the capabilities of technical cadres in the agricultural sector, especially in the field of livestock, in a way that contributes to enhancing and improving the income of many breeders and reducing the proportion of expenditures to less than 1 percent Increase the number of animals in their herds by 50 percent by providing emergency bags and animal production tools, improving the feed value of agricultural residues, and raising the capabilities of manufacturing milk products through training programs.

The average milk production of Shami goats About 497 kg per season and a twinning rate of 77 percent, close to that of global breeds.
