The US is blacklisting dozens of other Chinese companies to cut off China's access to US technology.
These include the chip manufacturer Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC).
There are indications of links between SMIC and the Chinese military, the Commerce Department said in its statement: "We will not allow advanced US technology to help build the military of an increasingly aggressive enemy," said Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.
Companies that want to do business with SMIC will need a special permit in the future.
In an interview with Fox Business, Ross also said that 60 other Chinese companies had been added to the list, eleven of which had links to SMIC.
A total of 689 companies are now on it - 296 of them are from China, including the technology group Huawei.
The move is seen as another move by outgoing US President Donald Trump to cement his tough trade policy with China before his Democratic challenger Joe Biden takes office in January.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry called on the US to end the "unjustified" crackdown on Chinese companies.
