The airline Lufthansa on Wednesday chartered a special cargo plane of 80 tons of fruit and vegetables to the United Kingdom, to bypass the suspension of links with Germany, established to deal with a variant of the Covid-19.

The plane arrived at 1:45 p.m. GMT, according to air traffic monitoring site flightradar24.
Faced with the heavy circulation in Great Britain of a new strain of Covid-19, whose transmission is 40% to 70% higher according to London, several countries on Monday suspended their links with the United Kingdom.
These measures have blocked the transport of goods between England and European countries, raising fears of food shortages, especially in fresh produce.
The activity of Lufthansa Cargo, consisting of transporting goods in the holds of airliners, was stopped by these measures.
The products, stored in Frankfurt, risked "
rotting
" if nothing had been done, a spokeswoman for Lufthansa Cargo told AFP.

According to German media, the plane chartered by the group was carrying cauliflowers, broccoli, strawberries, lettuce and citrus fruits, intended for British supermarkets.
