In the diesel affair, almost half of the VW Group's compensation payments to around 55,000 individual plaintiffs have now been settled.
The dpa news agency learned this from corporate circles.
Overall, more than 25,000 agreements have already been concluded in the proceedings outside of the large sample comparison, it said.
In these cases, the payment of the compensation has ended or is already ongoing.
Of the still open 30,000 lawsuits, in half of the cases, comparison offers have also been sent.
Volkswagen has promised one-off payments to all individual plaintiffs whose cars are affected by the VW emissions scandal.
The compensation is calculated individually.
Those who accept the money can also keep their car.
Anyone who refrains from making a settlement must wait for an individual judgment, in which the judges can orient themselves on the interpretation of the Federal Court of Justice (BGH).
In this case, the injured party may receive the purchase price minus a usage fee, but must return their car.
In contrast to the model declaratory action, which was directed by the Federation of Consumer Centers (vzbv), there is no uniform table for individual actions with predefined amounts of compensation per car model and age.
Negotiating such cases in court is correspondingly complex.
In a sample comparison, lawyers from vzbv and VW agreed after some back and forth between 1350 and 6257 euros in compensation, depending on the vehicle.
Almost all of the legitimate claims, a total of 245,000 cases, have now been settled, the company said.
More than 750 million euros have been paid out for it.
Only in a few cases were individual tests still running.
The scandal surrounding the manipulation of exhaust gas values in diesel engines caused Volkswagen what was probably the worst crisis in the company's history.
