A set of productive plans and measures were taken by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform during the 2019-2020 agricultural season despite the many difficulties and obstacles encountered in this sector.

According to the statistics of the ministry, of which SANA obtained a copy, the production of crops cultivated during this season amounted to 657 thousand tons of potatoes, 98 thousand tons of cotton, 301 thousand tons of food grains and 15 thousand tons of tobacco, while the production of the group of oil crops reached 27 thousand tons, and winter crops and vegetables reached 404 thousand tons and summer 1.6 Million tons, legumes and pastoral fodder 929 thousand tons, medicinal and aromatic 80 thousand tons.

Last year, the price of receiving the wheat crop from farmers was raised from 225 Syrian pounds to 450 pounds per kilogram, then raised to 550 pounds for the current season, as a continuation of the state's plan to support the agricultural sector and bring in the entire wheat crop in all governorates, and the ministry set the price of buying one kilogram of crop The beloved cotton cost 700 pounds, originally from the ginned land and the receiving centers of the General Organization for Cotton Ginning and Marketing.

The Ministry of Agriculture has adopted the principle of forward-looking and investigative visions in studying the current reality of the potato crop in terms of production and consumption need and setting an agricultural calendar for the months in which the material is available in a way that meets the local market need with a surplus that is stored and exported from the spring and summer bills covering the consumption needs during the year except for a critical period From 3-15 to 3-31, in which there is a deficit in covering the need for domestic consumption, as potato exports are prohibited.

With regard to fruit trees, 814 thousand tons of olives, 801 thousand tons of citrus fruits, 65 thousand tons of pistachios, 250 thousand tons of grapevines, 364 thousand tons of apples and 124 thousand tons of almonds were produced. 3.9 million fruitful seedlings and 6 million forest seedlings were produced, while the embarrassing areas reached 3255 hectares.

With regard to plant protection, the Ministry implemented, during the year 2020, general control campaigns with the aim of protecting agricultural production from insect and pathological pests free of charge according to the available capabilities, as the chemically controlled areas amounted to 364 thousand hectares, and the total areas of control with pheromone and food traps reached 23 thousand hectares and the work of the detection committees continues to implement the program Integrated Pest Control Management. The Central Disease Laboratory has also been accredited to conduct ring rot tests on potatoes and rapid deterioration on olives.

During the year 2020, granting loans to contribute to the process of transformation to modern irrigation was re-launched, and measures were taken in accordance with the approved production plan for the national project to convert to modern irrigation.

In the poultry sector, work has been done according to the ministry’s data to organize productive rings, cooperation and coordination between feed traders, soy producers and slaughterhouse owners to achieve the public and private interest and maintain the greatest possible stability for the quantities of meat and eggs available in the market, and with the aim of supporting breeding and organizing production, special feed courses for poultry and raising The fodder standard for the current cycle is 300 soybeans and 1700 yellow corns for birds, and expediting breeders' delivery of coke from the Homs refinery. Conditions have been set for obtaining this substance, which will contribute to reducing production costs and maintaining it at a good pace.

In addition, the activities of the exhibition of poultry and their veterinary requirements were launched with the participation of 36 local Syrian companies producing veterinary medicines, which constitutes a communication link between the producers and the transfer of experiences and modern technologies used internationally.

During the year 2020, the Ministry allowed the import of red meat to reduce the depletion of the local herd and to contribute to meeting the need for this substance, reducing its prices, and working to reduce the costs of producing veterinary medicines.

In addition, curative and preventive measures have been taken for cattle nodular dermatitis, as a specific vaccine has been secured by the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation, and the vaccination campaign will be completed before the end of next February. Coordination is also being made to provide a grant of vaccines by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. And the provision of vaccinations, veterinary care services, preventive immunizations and clinical treatments according to the available capabilities, as well as 133 million veterinary vaccines were produced, 16 million preventive vaccines were carried out, 262 thousand clinical treatments, 556 thousand artificial insemination, 363 liters of nitrogenous liquid and 615 thousand semen straws were produced.

With regard to the agricultural production plan for the season 2020-2021, the Ministry has taken a number of measures to implement it by granting agricultural regulation to farmers and providing assistance by adopting sensory detection for those who were unable to secure property documents to obtain production requirements and marketing it and launching the program for the promotion and expansion of wheat crop cultivation.

The Ministry worked to promote and activate rural development projects. In the second half of 2020, the implementation of the family farming project was completed through the distribution of 11250 grants that included a set of winter and summer vegetable seeds and a drip irrigation network for an area of ​​500 square meters.

The Ministry compensated those affected by the fires that occurred during the year 2020 in the areas located in the governorates of Tartous, Latakia, Homs and Hama, which amount to 171 fires, where committees were formed to limit the damage and start monetary compensation for those affected through the Fund to Mitigate the Effects of Drought and Natural Disasters, and 26.6 billion Syrian Pounds were spent as compensation for the production Citrus, olives and apples were also provided 69 cows as compensation for the affected breeders as a result of the death of their cows due to the fires, the distribution of 632 thousand olive plants and 474 thousand citrus plants to the affected people free of charge and the granting of the farmers loans for fruitful trees services without interest, and the preparation of an indicative program to introduce how to deal with the affected trees and hold seminars in the provinces of Lattakia And Tartous, broadcasting television programs and filming the method of pruning trees, and cooperating with international organizations in the field of rehabilitating the affected areas.

The ministry launched the national afforestation campaign, and the agricultural production support fund plan was amended to support leguminous crops and fodder of importance to the agricultural cycle.
