It was the change of 2021 that no one had seen coming and that risked some cringe.

This weekend, several Belgian sites then a site of the French regional daily press announced it, the pots of Nutella were going to shrink!

Those weighing 975 grams were to be reduced to 900 grams and the 750 gram jars would go down to 700 grams.

The price, meanwhile, was to remain the same, according to Belgian information notably relayed by Sud Info in an article entitled: "Honey, they have shrunk the jars of Nutella".

The catch is that this is all wrong.

Contacted by Le Parisien, the Nutella brand formally denied this unfounded "rumor".

"I can confirm that the rumor relating to a drop in the quantity contained in the jars of Nutella is false," replied the Ferrero press service.

Foodies fans of Nutella can therefore be reassured and calmly prepare for candlelight!

»She added with a certain humor.

Ferrero, who owns the famous pot, also communicated on Twitter to reassure his consumers.

As in 2020, Nutella® will be available in its usual formats for the pleasure of all gourmets.

No reduction in the size of Nutella jars for France or even for Belgium, therefore, since the production site of Ferrero, the parent brand, is located in Normandy ... and supplies both countries in the same way.

This “hoax” followed a particular course since the “rumor” was first the subject of articles in the Flemish press in Belgium, in particular an article in Het Laatste Nieuws.

The paper justifying this decrease with a marketing argument developed by a specialist.

“The price of ingredients, such as hazelnuts and cocoa, has risen sharply in recent years, which has made it more expensive to manufacture the most famous spread,” he explained.

In this case, this is not the case and the size of the jars of Nutella will remain the same in 2021. The prices are, in turn, the responsibility of the distributors and not of Ferrero.

They can therefore fluctuate.
