The best for flying.

Tomer Chen on the simulator

"Whoever takes such a combat flight course, enters as one person and exits as a completely different person."

So says Tomer Chen, the youngest flight instructor of the first simulator center in Israel.

Only 17 years old, and already the first time he sat down on the flight simulator, Chen realized that his dream of becoming a fighter pilot was not far off.

Maybe even possible.

Already at home in his spare time, Tomer used to explore the world of simulators, starting with space simulators, helicopters and ordinary planes, in addition to the desire to develop simulators and improve the world of flying through a home simulator.

As an 8-year-old he dreamed of becoming an astronaut and realized that through flying he could make his dream come true, and fell in love with the world of flight and simulators after his first experience on a 16-F combat flight simulator.

Today is the only thing he wants to do in the future.

Despite his young age, Tomer felt he was destined to become a fighter pilot.

During the summer vacation at the age of 15, Tomer and his father watched the film when the commercials were shown, the commercial for the simulator center "The Squadron" was shown and he decided to try a combat flight.

His first experience on a flight simulator he went through with his father who sat next to him during takeoff until landing.

In those months the "Squadron" - an advanced simulator squadron of 16-F aircraft, developed a combat flight course for youth.

Tomer, who devoutly followed the squadron's activities, asked his father to take the course with the promise of further investment in schooling.

He successfully completed the combat flight course as a trainee in the first round of the squadron and did not even give up homework, hobbies and friends.

Immediately after completing the course in the Squadron at the age of 16, he began working at the place and working at Paul Power to prepare himself and fulfill his dream of becoming a pilot.

That the squadron has inspired him a lot in the last two years: "The place to me seemed like a place I could do but I immediately got a family feeling. I was offered a job at the place. For the first few weeks I felt" Okay, wow, how did I get here?

But since then the place has been like family and I am happy that we have fallen in this part of the right. "

Equal among equals.

Tomer Chen

Tomer draws his inspiration from his father, whom he admires.

His father and mother recognized the Air Force: "My father always talked to me and reminded me on a daily basis how special being a pilot is, how powerful it is, especially in a country that has the most powerful army in the world."

Today he dreams of the most significant role - a fighter pilot.

In his role, he delivers training and content during the flights, which enables the exploration of performing various tasks, learning tools for excellence and a conversation about values from the world of flight, while combining a meaningful and unique experience in a combat simulator.

In addition, Tomer develops technical aspects behind the scenes, and helps promote other topics.

"I try to find solutions to problems or things that can be improved and work with amazing people," he says. "The content I deliver as a combat simulator instructor introduces me to interesting and senior people. I have been happy to mentor veteran pilots, including a viper helicopter pilot, "They underwent screenings for the pilot and will be enlisting soon. Most of the training gave me the ability to study people and understand situations better."

He says of the great satisfaction he feels: "I see people passing the course for the first time, meeting them again and seeing improvement and development also in the dynamics between them. People come in as one person and go out as another. Most come back again and there are senior workshops designed for teamwork and teamwork. Much better. I really like the work here and feel that every day and every training is an opportunity to learn something new. "Kobi Regev, proved to me that we can stubbornly find a solution to every problem, and that in the end these solutions advance us. And that every problem is small and has a solution."

And what is the difference between that and a real fighter jet?

When the corona arrived, the squadron's youth began working on developing an online combat flight course and delivering a daily briefing along with a professional flight investigation, with the content taken from the world of flight both on the ground (learning and preparation processes) and in the air.

"The move to online and the development of the course led us to a lot of trial and error of the flights we built, and we had to think about how to connect the hardware and which computers can hold the software. These days any computer is able to hold the software. While enhancing the experience of the combat flight simulator at home, compared to the way we physically move the place. "

These days Tomer is preparing himself for the formation of a pilot course.

According to him, the contents of the first course for teenagers and work in the squadron gave him an experience of learning processes and developing personal skills in many areas he adopted in daily life - continuous improvement, teamwork, improving decision-making processes, recovery from failure and personal excellence.

He accumulates the content that can benefit him to go through the squadron June and fulfill his dream of becoming a pilot in the Israeli Air Force, in addition to learning and tips he receives from the people around him, starting with the Air Force pilots, pilot graduates, and friends who did not pass the formation.

"The most significant thing the squadron has given me is the ability to research," he says, "to know how to turn mistakes into progress and learn from them in the best way. The ability to interrogate myself makes me improve in everything I do, advance my abilities and realize my full potential in everything Today I am active in combat fitness in preparation for the army, love to surf kite and ride a skate, play guitar and really like music and precisely because I am younger, I have better and faster abilities. There is no situation today I will not know how to improve or recover from failure, following development The personal I have been going through in recent years. It's not just the desire to make the dream come true, but much more than that.

"In the squadron I was able to reach my potential for the first time and understand that anything is possible.

There is not much information about the world of online flight and only those in the field of flight or flight simulators can get the information.

The squadron gave me the ability to see the pilot world much more closely.

"In the end, the course does not teach you how to be a fighter pilot in the Israeli Air Force, but the use of a simulator and the content delivered in a combat flight course can benefit self-improvement, can take us out of the comfort zone and teach us how to learn from mistakes and know how to work properly."

Adamit Regev, one of the founders of the "Squadron"

The squadron was established by Col. (Res.) Kobi Regev and Adamit Regev and other senior commanders, fighter pilots from the Air Force, out of the dream and the desire to allow everyone to be exposed to the Air Force's organizational and personal excellence, and learn the experience of flying a fighter jet. Through a flight trainer (simulator).

The squadron is located in the Cinema City complex in Glilot and is built as an exact replica of a combat squadron in the Air Force, which includes a simulator complex of F-16s and F-35s, advanced VR stations, briefing rooms, locker rooms and equipment, a squadron club and a squadron brand store.

The squadron operates according to a typical agenda in a combat squadron in the Air Force, which includes fitting a flight suit, professional flight instruction, receiving a mission and flight objectives, guided flight in a simulator and flight research according to the squadron's research methodology.
