With temperatures expected below normal for the season, the electricity network manager (RTE) warns that the consumption of electricity

While the cold wave continues to affect France, the electricity network manager (RTE) calls on the French to reduce their electricity consumption this Friday until 1 p.m.

Due to the expected drop in temperatures (between -4 and -4.5 ° C below seasonal norms), electricity consumption should reach a high level, reducing the available safety margin, RTE said Thursday evening.

The manager of the high voltage network specifies, however, that "no power cut is planned".

Adopt "eco-gestures"

RTE assured to "implement all means to guarantee the security of electricity supply".

According to the manager, the electricity consumption of the French will reach a high level on Friday, at some 88,000 MW.

The production "will be sufficient, at 88,200 MW, to cover all needs", but to "avoid any risk of outage", the French are invited to reduce their consumption through "eco-gestures".

Eco-friendly actions to adopt at home

If all French people turn off a light bulb, for example, an electricity consumption saving of 600 MW is achieved, or approximately the consumption of a city like Toulouse, quotes the organization which provides other advice on the site MonEcowatt.fr .

But beyond that, RTE has other levers to guarantee security of supply, in particular interruptibility (stopping the consumption of industrial sites under contract with RTE), the 5% drop in voltage on the network (which very slightly reduces the performance of electrical devices) and as a last resort organized, localized and temporary cuts.
