The "RE 2020" regulation, which is due to come into force in the summer, prohibits gas in new buildings by 2024. Objective: to reduce consumption and emissions.

The employees of the gas sector are called on Thursday to mobilize by the inter-federal (CGT, CFE-CGC, CFDT, FO) against the “RE 2020” regulation, which must come into force in the summer and sign for the unions the “

Announced last November, the RE 2020 regulation should allow a 30% drop in daily consumption, as well as a 30 to 40% drop in construction emissions by 2030, an objective that must go through the 'ban on gas in new buildings by 2024. Union federations in the energy sector, which warned in a press release about "

a danger for gas networks and jobs

" auguring the "

killing

" of gas in France , "

Call on all gas employees to oppose this text

".

It's totally ubiquitous,

” Judge José Belo, CFDT coordinator of the Engie group.

"

We cannot talk about energy transition when we decide to kill an entire industry

".

"

We must give way to gas in the energy transition

", agrees Hamid Ait Ghezala, CFE-CGC coordinator at Engie, for whom gas "

is an energy that is becoming green

with biomethane and biogas

".

"

Without gas, we would not be able to pass the energy peaks,

" warns Thierry Zehnder, coordinator of struggles at the CGT Energies federation.

The CGT also calls for mobilization in the entire energy sector, from Thursday and at least until Tuesday, the day when the federal government calls for a strike at EDF against the highly contested Hercules project.

"

For us, these are complementary energies so it's normal to mobilize together

", explains Thierry Zehnder.

This is the fourth day of mobilization in gas after the days of November 26, December 10 and 17, when the entire energy sector was called to strike, already at the initiative of the federal government.

Thursday's strike call “

will probably be followed by a day of mobilization on January 26,

” warns José Belo.

The boss of Engie, Jean-Pierre Clamadieu, is himself positioned against the ban on gas in the construction industry that should be enacted by RE 2020. “

Electrification is an important vector for the decarbonisation of our economy, but it does not can't be the only one.

The all-electric model is doomed to failure,

”he said in December in Le Monde.
