The insolvent steak house chain Maredo has apparently given notice to almost all employees.
Because there is hardly any liquidity left for the payment of wages and salaries, one is forced to take this step, according to a letter from the management to the workforce, about which the industry portal “Food Service” previously reported.
According to the letter, only a rump group in the administration continues to work for the time being.
Maredo filed for bankruptcy in March 2020, and the company was in crisis before the pandemic began.
20 out of 35 restaurants were closed in the spring, around half of the approximately 950 employees had to leave.
The corona-related closings from November were another setback.
According to the steak house chain, the state rejected a request for corona help.
The catering industry has been hit hard by the consequences of the pandemic, and other companies are also under pressure - competitor Vapiano also went bankrupt in 2020.
