The expansion of the epizootic

" of bird flu "

seems to date controlled

"

If things stop there, we should be able to completely control this epizootic, which does not mean that there are not yet weeks of work

", underlined with caution the prefect of Gironde and New Brunswick. Aquitaine Fabienne Buccio during her greetings to the press in Bordeaux.

The prefect considered that the “

drastic

measures

put in place had proved to be “

suitable and effective

”, between mass slaughter, ban on transport and introduction of poultry and other captive birds.

As of January 14, more than 1 million poultry, mostly ducks, had been slaughtered in the southwest.

The prefect however warned against "

a risk of jumps

" of the epidemic.

Faced with a virus, we do not control everything,

” added Fabienne Buccio.

"

The State will support the breeders, their losses will be compensated

", she assured.

The first compensation for an amount of approximately 1 million euros is in progress for some twenty cases.

As of January 20, France had 348 confirmed outbreaks of “

highly pathogenic avian influenza

” in duck and poultry farms, mainly located in New Aquitaine (300).

The Landes department, where the poultry industry represents more than 2,500 jobs spread over 850 farms, is by far the most affected with 272 households, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Agriculture.

If "it

is confirmed that the crisis is well under control, we have a few months ahead of us to work, and find the right lines with the profession (...) It might be necessary that the farms are less important than what they are not currently (...) that could be a solution

, according to the prefect of Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
