President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced the creation at the Pentagon of a task force to develop the strategy to adopt vis-à-vis China, which the United States regards as its number one strategic adversary.

"This working group will work quickly to (...) allow us to decide on a firm direction on issues related to China,"

said Joe Biden during his first visit to the Pentagon.

"It's going to take a whole-of-government effort, cooperation between the two parties in Congress, and strong alliances and partnerships

"

Biden added.

"This is how we can respond to the challenges posed by China."

Composed of 15 civil and military advisers, this group, which will have four months to present its recommendations to Defense Minister Lloyd Austin, will be chaired by a former diplomatic adviser to Joe Biden specializing in China, Ely Ratner.

The objective is to determine the military posture necessary in the Pacific to counter Beijing's territorial ambitions, to develop cooperation with the allies, but also to determine the kind of relations that the United States wishes to have with the Chinese army or even the kind of weapon to develop or not.

The new US government has already sent several warnings to China about its expansionism in the China Sea.

Joe Biden last month reminded Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga

of the United States'

"unwavering commitment"

to protect Japan, including the uninhabited Senkaku archipelago, called Diaoyu in Chinese and claimed by Beijing.

The new head of the Pentagon, Lloyd Austin, considered that China was the

"most difficult (...) and the most complex problem"

of the United States, because Washington wants to deter Beijing militarily but to cooperate with China economically.
