Referring to the developments in the foreign exchange market during the recent period and the changes it brought about in the exchange rate of the Syrian pound, the Central Bank of Syria confirmed that it had taken a set of measures to intervene in the foreign exchange market in an attempt to restore stability and achieve balance in it in cooperation and coordination with the concerned authorities.
In a statement, SANA received a copy of it, the Central Bank stated that the Central Agency for Combating Money Laundering and Financing Terrorism and the Central Judicial Police carried out many missions in various governorates, specifically the governorates of Damascus, Hama and Aleppo, which resulted in a group of companies and entities working on speculation on the Syrian pound, and large amounts of Funds are in Syrian pounds and US dollars.
The Central Bank stressed that it is continuing with a multi-faceted process of intervention, leading to the return of the exchange rate in the currency market to previous equilibrium levels.
The Central Bank called on citizens, whether individuals or those with economic activities, not to be dragged behind the rumors that accompanied the launch of the five thousand Syrian Pounds denomination aimed at giving up the national currency, once again affirming its continuation in its intervention measures in the currency market and using its tools to stabilize and preserve the national currency.
The Central Bank pointed out that this matter requires awareness on the part of citizens and company owners, in addition to the Central Bank's measures to continue to confront the attempts that target the Syrian pound and the Syrian people who have proven their steadfastness throughout the war.
