A new version of the European energy label, now ranging from classes A to G, will appear from March on household appliances in order to better guide consumers to energy-efficient products, Ademe said on Tuesday.

Four categories of equipment are concerned: refrigerators / freezers / wine cabinets, washing machines, dishwashers and televisions / screens.
For bulbs, the new label will appear in September.
Ratings from A to G will replace the current displays which ranged from A +++ to D.
Since the label was created by the EU in 1995, multiple class changes have taken place to accommodate improved product performance, and these changes, including the addition of classes A + to A +++, made it less clear, explains Ademe, the Ecological Transition Agency.
In addition to the rating scale, this new version will be accompanied by a “
QR code
” allowing access to a database on products: by scanning it with their smartphone, consumers will be able to obtain additional technical information. non-commercial character, supplied by the manufacturers.
By choosing more efficient equipment, European households could save on average 150 euros per year, according to EU statistics.

This label also pushes manufacturers "
to always do better
", state the authorities: the new class A, very demanding, does not correspond to any product currently on the market.
For the other product groups (air conditioners, tumble dryers, vacuum cleaners, water heaters, etc.), the new labels will be implemented from 2022.
