to stay above the poverty line.

The difference between the values of both baskets responds to the fact that

the rates of public services and transportation are found in the Total Basic Basket

, while in the Food Basket the food item is predominant and was one of the ones that increased the most in recent months .

Thus, the CBA is determined based on the essential kilocaloric and protein requirements for different family models, based on food and quantities based on the consumption habits of the population, an indicator that is considered the limit of indigence.

To determine the CBT, the CBA is extended with non-food goods and services

, by applying the Engel coefficient (CoE), defined as the relationship between food expenditures and total expenditures observed in the reference population.

With this methodological scheme, the CBA registered an increase of 5.1% in December, which determines that a family group composed of two adults and two minors needed to receive income of $ 22,680.97 in order not to fall into a situation of indigence, thus that throughout 2020 marked a cumulative rise of 45.5%.

Meanwhile, the CBT increased 4.7% in December, for which the same family group needed to have income of $ 54,207.53 to avoid falling below the poverty line, with a cumulative increase of 39.1% .

Last week,

Indec reported that the Consumer Price Index (CPI-Cost of Living) increased 4% during January

, due to increases of 15.1% in the communications sector, 5.4% in hotels and restaurants, and 4.8% in food and beverages.

In this way, the CPI reached in January, the same monthly increase of 4% as that registered in December and presented an interannual inflation of 38.5%.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages, with an increase of 4.8%, was the one with the highest incidence in all regions, mainly due to the increases observed in meat and derivatives;

fruits and oils;

fat and butter, stressed the body.
