Problems with computer chips: The US electric car pioneer is now calling back thousands of vehicles in Germany.
Model S sedans and gullwing SUVs Model X built before March 2018 are affected, as reported by the Augsburger Allgemeine newspaper, citing a spokesman for the Federal Motor Transport Authority.
In battery cars built before March 2018, according to information from the newspaper, if the memory chip is full, there is a risk of total failure of the central screen, which is used to control numerous vehicle functions.
According to the Flensburg authority, around 7,500 affected Tesla models were registered in Germany by January 2018.
Previously, around 135,000 vehicles built between 2012 and 2018 had already been recalled in the USA under pressure from the US Federal Road and Vehicle Safety Authority, NHTSA.
Tesla lowers prices for cheaper models
Meanwhile, Tesla is reducing sales prices for the cheaper versions of the Model 3 sedan and the Model Y Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV).
At the same time, the performance variants are becoming more expensive, as the website of the electric car manufacturer shows.
For example, the Model 3 Standard Range Plus is now priced at $ 36,990 instead of $ 37,990, while the Model Y Standard Range has been reduced from $ 41,990 to $ 39,990, according to the website.
The performance variant of the Model 3, on the other hand, was increased from $ 54,990 to $ 55,990, the Model Y from $ 59,990 to $ 60,990, as the website showed.
The price cuts come at a time when Tesla is looking to ramp up its deliveries.
In total, the company delivered 499,550 vehicles in 2020, exceeding Wall Street's estimates of 481,261 vehicles.
