The Federal Government's Tourism Commissioner, Thomas Bareiß, expects that summer holidays abroad will be possible without any problems despite the corona pandemic.
"I hope that most Germans will be vaccinated by the summer and will also be able to travel abroad," said the CDU member of the "Bild" newspaper.
He sees no reason why holidaymakers should not be able to travel to the Mediterranean islands, for example, if the corona incidence values there were below 35.
According to Bareiß, the government should not make travel unnecessarily difficult.
"We can't keep people at home permanently," he says.
In the holiday areas, the incidence is partly below that in Germany
The Mediterranean islands are popular holiday destinations for Germans.
They include, for example, the Spanish Balearic Islands with the island of Mallorca.
In the Balearic Islands, the seven-day incidence value is now less than 50 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
This means that the islands are currently less affected by the coronavirus than Germany: In Germany, the seven-day incidence value on Thursday morning is 61.7.
For the Robert Koch Institute, the 50 mark is central to the decision as to whether an area is classified as a risk area.
Since mid-August of last year, a travel warning from the Foreign Office has been in effect for Spain and thus also the Balearic Islands.
For travelers returning from risk areas, a test is mandatory in Germany.
