Rabe, 55, became CFO of the

Bertelsmann

subsidiary RTL Group

in 2000

, later moved to the same position at Bertelsmann and rose to CEO of the Gütersloh media group in 2012.

In January his contract was extended for a third term.

SPIEGEL:

Mr. Rabe, at the beginning of the month you informed the Gruner + Jahr workforce that they should move closer to RTL.

Since then, the mood at the Hamburg publishing house has been pretty bad.

Some "Stern" editors take refuge in gallows humor and answer the phone with "Hello, here RTL!"

Raven:

Nothing has been decided yet.

We are at the beginning of the process.

I can imagine that we will continue our previous cooperation, even more systematic and structured, and perhaps only combine some business areas.

But it is also conceivable to merge the businesses as a whole.

Such a process leads to uncertainty, both at G + J and at RTL, of course.

The best way to deal with this is simply through open communication.

And I can already say this much: A decision will be made in the third quarter, and implementation will begin in the fourth quarter.

Until then, all sides check with an open mind.
