The Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that the bilateral agreement between China and the European Union on geographical indications will enter into force today.

"The Geographical Indications Agreement between China and the European Union was signed on September 14, 2020, after 22 rounds of formal negotiations launched since 2011 and is considered the first comprehensive high-level bilateral agreement on geographical indications by China," Xinhua news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement. According to the agreement, 100 geographical indications have been protected from each side, and it is decided that the second list of geographical indications, consisting of 175 geographical indications from each side, will be subject to protection measures during the next four years.
