The Hijaz Railroad Corporation announced that it had concluded an investment contract to implement and construct a tourist and commercial complex in the center of the capital, Damascus, adjacent to the historic Hijaz station, in the place of the Hijaz café, and overlooking the Al-Hamidiyah Market, and that it handed over the business site assets to the executing party, as the institution is the owner of the land.
The director of the Foundation, Hassanein Ali, explained to the SANA delegate that the investing company has started the excavation and construction work to implement this project within three years according to the investment contract approved by the Cabinet and Tourism Committees and the Damascus Governorate, indicating that the project includes a 5-star hotel, commercial offices, various services, restaurants, a business lounge, a health and recreational center. And a parking garage.
The director of the foundation pointed out that several bodies from the concerned ministries and the governorate have seen the project and granted the necessary approvals to complete its construction, which has become an urgent necessity to secure various services in the center of Damascus, as it simulates urban designs and takes into account the visual identity of the region in general.
Ali mentioned that the existing café, which was described as "heritage and historical", is a limited occupancy of a cafe that has a popular character in the name of the place inspired by the Hijaz, and that it has no historical dependency or any architectural landmarks or heritage identity and is not classified in the heritage lists in Damascus at all, as it is promoted on the pages of social networking sites. .
