Hard blow for the Bosch plant in Rodez.
The German automotive supplier will cut 750 jobs out of 1,250 in its Aveyron factory by 2025, a decision linked to the drop in sales of diesel-powered vehicles, the group announced on Friday.
"We will reduce the teams in the coming years, by 2025, to 500 people," said Bosch president for France and Benelux, Heiko Carrie, deeming the measure "essential" in the current context.
“The will is to avoid forced departures,” however, through early retirement and voluntary departures, he said.
The first private employer in the department of Aveyron, the Bosch plant in Rodez manufactures injectors and spark plugs for diesel vehicles, the demand for which has declined considerably due to the drop in sales of diesel vehicles.
The workforce will be reduced from 2021. At the end of the year, the number of employees will drop to 1,100, predicts Heiko Carrie.
This restructuring, assures the boss of Bosch France, “gives a real perspective for the site and the stability necessary for the years to come.
(...) We are no longer in a logic of closing the site ”.

The share of diesel in Europe has fallen significantly over the past ten years.
In France, registrations of new passenger cars equipped with a diesel engine have fallen by more than half, from 73% in 2012 to only around 34% today.
