Damascus-Sana
The Prime Minister, Engineer Hussein Arnous, approved the recommendation of the Economic Committee to determine the purchase price of one kilogram of the cotton crop beloved by farmers for the 2021 season at an amount of 1,500 Syrian pounds.
The price specified per kilogram of cotton is the arrival of the ginners' land and the receiving centers of the General Organization for Cotton Ginning and Marketing, according to the actual costs of production requirements and so that the government support is upon receipt of the final product.
The Director General of the General Organization for Ginning and Marketing Cotton, Zahir Atal, explained in a statement to the representative of SANA that determining this price was based on a study and adoption of the costs of strategic crops in terms of high costs due to the high prices of fertilizers and fuels and the increase in irrigated areas and the need to stabilize cotton cultivation and encourage farmers from the beginning of the season to cultivate the crop. By giving them remunerative returns and supporting strategic crops in line with the government’s direction to direct support to those who are eligible, and to secure the raw material for operating ginning plants, textiles and oils according to their production capacities.
In September 2020, the Economic Committee raised the price of purchasing one kilogram of the beloved cotton crop from farmers from 360 to 700 pounds, continuing the land of the millers and the receiving centers of the General Organization for Ginning and Marketing Cotton.
