The steel giant ArcelorMittal announced on Monday the appointment of Geert Van Poelvoorde as CEO of the Europe branch, where he succeeds Aditya Mittal, who has become CEO of the group.

Geert Van Poelvoorde has headed the Flat Products division of ArcelorMittal Europe since 2014. He is now responsible for all of the group's activities in Europe.
Since November 2015, he has also chaired Eurofer, the European steel federation.
Geert Van Poelvoorde, 53, of Belgian nationality, graduated from Ghent University in civil and electronic engineering.
He started with the group in 1989 and has held various positions of responsibility, notably at the Ghent and Bremen sites.
