The latter only stayed for a three-year term, unlike most of his recent predecessors.

His time at the head of the firm was particularly marked by legal proceedings in the United States, accusing McKinsey of having contributed to the opioid crisis through his advice to pharmaceutical groups such as Purdue Pharma, the manufacturer of the painkiller OxyContin. .

McKinsey agreed in early February to pay $ 573 million to settle these lawsuits.

Sandal in South Africa

Kevin Sneader also had to deal with the fallout from a scandal in South Africa when he took over in 2018 over a contract with the South African public electricity giant Eskom.

He initiated several governance changes, including a more rigorous client selection policy.

His replacement, 51, is based in San Francisco and has worked for McKinsey for 26 years.

Bob Sternfels will be the 13th partner to lead the company since its inception in 1926.
