The oil group Total announced on Thursday that it would present for the first time a resolution on the climate at its next general meeting during which it will propose the renewal for three years of its CEO Patrick Pouyanné.

The annual shareholders' meeting will be held on May 28, remotely due to the health situation.
The board of directors will present a resolution
"for an advisory vote"
on the group's ambition in terms of sustainable development and energy transition, the group said in a press release.
“The Board of Directors thus allows shareholders to express their opinion on the strategy for energy transition towards carbon neutrality that it has adopted for the company, taking into account certain expectations in this direction and the inadmissibility of 'a draft resolution relating to this strategy which would be presented by shareholders as soon as it is a specific area of competence of the board of directors, ”he
underlines.
"A diversionary strategy"
The NGOs Greenpeace and Reclaim Finance immediately reacted, denouncing a
“diversionary strategy”
and an
“umpteenth attempt by Total to counter a possible shareholder resolution on the climate”
.
The agenda will also include the renewal of the mandate of Patrick Pouyanné until 2024. The latter has also announced his intention to
“voluntarily reduce his fixed compensation by 25% from May 1, 2020, in view of the context exceptional economy, ”
adds Total.
On May 28, shareholders will also be called upon to confirm the change of the group's corporate name to “TotalEnergies SE”.
