Amid fears for a second wave of coronavirus infections in the country and the return of restrictive measures to try to contain the advance of the pandemic, the Government acknowledged that it would again take "

exceptional measures

" to help economically those who need it most. .

It was said by the Minister of Social Development, Daniel Arroyo, who avoided referring to whether they would be the Emergency Family Income (IFE) and the Work and Production Assistance (ATP) program, but said that "exceptional measures will be taken. they will evaluate at the moment ".

"The return of the IFE and the ATP is not in the budget. I have to support food assistance, create 300 thousand jobs, urbanize 400 neighborhoods and start up 800 gardens.

If there is a regrowth, if the health situation is complicated We are going to take exceptional measures

that we are going to evaluate at the moment, but we are going to do it, "Arroyo said in statements to

.

The Emergency Family Income (IFE) reached 9 million people with three payments of $ 10,000 each that were made between April and September 2020. The State allocated $ 270,000 million to this aid that reached the unemployed, holders of the Assignment Universal per Child (AUH), domestic workers, informal workers and monotributistas of categories A and B.

Last year the Work and Production Assistance program (ATP) was also developed, a key piece to sustain private activity in the midst of strict quarantine.

Through the ATP, the State was responsible for the payment of up to 50% of salaries.

As openings resumed, that attendance dwindled until the program ended in December.

The IFE and ATP were discontinued while the pandemic showed signs of retraction and the advance of vaccines was trusted.

The main reason for limiting these aid was to put limits on the fiscal deficit.

"Last year all activity was closed. For me, April, May and June were the most complicated months because the dining rooms overflowed. This year is different: if a teacher or a student has coronavirus, the classroom is closed, not the school If a factory has problems, it will not affect the entire productive sector, "the official said.

Arroyo was also asked about the VIP vaccination scandal that was mounted in the Ministry of Health and cost Ginés González García his job: "I believe that the one who has been vaccinated and did not correspond, is wrong. I see in the neighborhoods to people who were vaccinated and who are very happy, and another who is worried because they have not called yet, "he said.
