At the start of the year, Carrefour was on the verge of selling itself to the Canadian Couche-Tard, before Bruno Le Maire vetoed the operation.
The French distributor quickly recovered from this disappointment by going on the offensive.
Carrefour announced this Wednesday morning the takeover of Grupo Big, ex-subsidiary of Walmart and third local food distributor, for 1.1 billion euros.
The American distribution giant sold 80% of this Brazilian subsidiary to the Advent fund in 2018, due to its poor performance.

This acquisition will be made for 70% in cash and for 30% in shares, which will decrease slightly
