Carrefour buys the former Walmart subsidiary in Brazil for one billion euros

The French distributor quickly recovered from this disappointment by going on the offensive.

Carrefour announced this Wednesday morning the takeover of Grupo Big, ex-subsidiary of Walmart and third local food distributor, for 1.1 billion euros.

The American distribution giant sold 80% of this Brazilian subsidiary to the Advent fund in 2018, due to its poor performance.

says the Figaro Alexandre Bompard, CEO of Carrefour.

It confirms what we said a month ago: we have the means to be ambitious and to carry out consolidation operations in our main markets

 ”.

This acquisition will be made for 70% in cash and for 30% in shares, which will decrease slightly
