The worst mode of electricity production in terms of CO2 emissions is disappearing from the territory.
On April 1, EDF disconnected from the electricity grid its coal-fired power station in Le Havre, which had been running since 1968. Shortening the deadline by one year set under François Hollande, Parliament set 2022 for the closure of all coal-fired power stations, which are used mainly during periods of heavy winter consumption.

No less than 170 agents and 72 employees of permanent subcontractors will see their positions abolished in Le Havre and will have to retrain.
As for EDF's last site, that of Cordemais, in Loire-Atlantique, it could be converted to biomass, to operate a few hundred hours per year.
Besides the historic electrician, only one operator still operates such sites: GazelEnergie, owned by Czech magnate Daniel Kretinsky.
