The club of the super-rich continued to grow despite the economic slump in the pandemic.
2755 people, and thus more than ever, have more than a billion dollars on the current list of the rich in Forbes magazine.
While Amazon boss Jeff Bezos is the undisputed leader, some entrepreneurs were able to work their way up vigorously last year.
Tesla boss Elon Musk was one of the winners of the crisis with a fortune of 177 billion dollars, he made up more than 30 places - and is now in second place.
Also taking part for the first time is reality star Kim Kardashian, who made it into the billionaires' club through self-marketing.
For the former US President Donald Trump, however, things are no longer going smoothly.
It crashed nearly 300 places.
According to Forbes, his fortune shrank by almost a third from $ 3.5 billion to $ 2.4 billion, which puts him in 1299th place.
Richest German in 34th place worldwide
If he had given up his business at the beginning of his presidency, sold it and reinvested it again, according to the magazine based on the development of the stock market, he would be about 1.6 billion dollars richer today.
Presidency and doing business on the side don't seem to work that well after all.
The first European on the rich list is Bernard Arnault: third place.
His LVMH group owns more than 70 luxury brands, including Louis Vuitton, Moët & Chandon and Bulgari.
Most recently, the Frenchman made headlines with the planned takeover of the Tiffany jewelry chain.
It would be the most expensive deal in LVMH's history.
According to Forbes, Arnault himself can look back on a fortune of 150 billion dollars.
This means that he owns almost twice as much as the next richer European: the Spaniard Amancio Ortega ($ 77 billion, eleventh place worldwide).
The richest Germans only come a long way on the "Forbes" list: Beate Heister and Karl Albrecht Jr., who are responsible for Aldi Süd, are 34th worldwide with assets of 39.2 billion dollars determined by the magazine (Europe-wide place five).
Lidl founder Dieter Schwarz comes in 35th place with a fortune of 36.9 billion dollars. In Europe he is just ahead of the candy magnate Giovanni Ferrero, who has a fortune of 34.8 billion dollars (38th place worldwide).
