The coronavirus epidemic will leave a deep mark on French public finances.
To fight against this health crisis, the government plans to devote the astronomical sum of 424 billion euros between 2020, 2021 and 2022. This is the equivalent of 20% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of 2020!
This figure represents the difference between the public deficits forecast before the crisis and what Olivier Dussopt, Minister in charge of public accounts, finally entered in the stability program which will be sent to Brussels in a few days.
It is, in other words, what will be lacking in the coffers of the State compared to what was expected.
And the lag is therefore impressive.
The bulk of the bill will be distributed in 2020 and 2021. According to the now definitive data from Bercy, the economic cost of the epidemic, hollowed out last year by the very hard confinement of spring, reached 158 billion d 'euros, split between reductions in tax revenue and expenditure
