Paris will host fewer major world congresses

ANALYSIS - The French capital and the events sector are suffering the consequences of the Covid-19 crisis.


International Paris Air Show?

Canceled.

Agricultural centre?

World of the automobile?

The pandemic has turned into a disaster for professional events.

In France, the sector saw its turnover fall by 75% last year, after reaching 9.3 billion euros in 2019.

In this sector, which brings together site managers, trade fair organizers, event agencies and service providers, 600 out of 3,300 companies have gone bankrupt since March 2020, estimates the French Union of Event Trades (Unimev).

Many subcontractors did not survive, despite financial support from the state.

7,500 jobs out of the 40,000 direct jobs in the sector have been destroyed.

International events must more than ever embody showcases of French influence.
