Neither Colonial Pipeline nor the American authorities were able, on Monday, to foresee the return to normalcy of the vast network of pipelines which serves the east coast of the United States.
Colonial Pipeline, one of the most important energy arteries in the country, suffered a cyberattack on Friday that forced it to stop all its activities.
Three days later, the group that transports 2.5 million barrels of gasoline and diesel each day, or 45% of the East Coast's consumption, over 8,800 km of pipes between Texas and New Jersey had relaunched only a small part of its activity.

Colonial Pipeline fell victim to ransomware, a malicious program designed to lock down systems by encrypting data and demanding payment to regain access.
DarkSide wants to "earn money"
According to the FBI, the cyberattack was carried out by the criminal group DarkSide.
Very organized, it is careful not to target, like some other cybergangs, the institutions of the former USSR.
