Europe wants to be compensated

While the first procedure, launched at the end of April against the laboratory, aimed at obtaining faster delivery times, this time it is a question of examining the merits of the case.

This new legal action aims to obtain damages.

AstraZeneca has delivered only 50 million doses of its Covid-19 vaccine out of the 300 million ordered by the end of June by the European Commission.

In March, citing production and export problems, the company assured that it would deliver only a third of the planned doses.

The laboratory had also committed to the EU to reach the threshold of 50 million doses at the end of April.

AstraZeneca has once again failed to meet this commitment, delivering just over 47 million.

A non-renewed contract

On Sunday May 9, European Commissioner for Industry Thierry Breton said the Commission will not renew its contract with the Anglo-Swedish firm. On the other hand, a new contract for 1.8 billion doses was signed with the Pfizer and BioNTech laboratories.
