The American bank JPMorgan Chase announced on Tuesday several movements within the direction on the occasion of the departure of one of the close collaborators of the CEO Jamie Dimon, including the appointment of Jennifer Piepszak and Marianne Lake, two women likely to succeed him, to head of retail banking.

The current head of the division, Gordon Smith, plans to retire at the end of the year, the establishment said in a statement.

Aged 62, he will continue to act as co-director of the bank's operations until December alongside Daniel Pinto, 58, also boss of investment and investment banking.

The two men, often seen as potential contenders for the establishment's general management, had temporarily taken over the day-to-day business of JPMorgan Chase when Jamie Dimon had, in the spring of 2020, undergone heart surgery.

Two women in the running

Gordon Smith, however, leaves his place at the head of retail banking, with immediate effect, to Jennifer Piepszak, currently CFO, and Marianne Lake, currently head of the household loans division.

Both 51 years old, they are also often seen as people who can replace Jamie Dimon.

Together they take the head of a division which represents a little more than 40% of the turnover of the company.

Jeremy Barnum, 48, becomes the financial director of the establishment.

In charge of research for the investment and investment banking division since February, he was previously its financial director since 2013.
