It is in the Alstom workshops in Belfort that Christophe Fanichet (Chairman and CEO of SNCF Voyageurs), Alain Krakovitch (Director of SNCF Travel), Xavier Ouin (Industrial Director of SNCF Voyageurs) and Jean-Baptiste Eyméoud (Chairman, Alstom France) inaugurated the engine of this eco TGV described as

"more innovative and efficient"

and which constitutes

"a first in Europe"

, as stated by SNCF in a press release.

The new train which belongs to the fourth generation of TGV has different characteristics, including eco-driving and a more aerodynamic shape of its "nose" for better penetration into the air, allowing

"an energy saving of the around 20% ”

as well as a 32% reduction in CO2 emissions and 97% of its materials are recyclable.

More modern and more accessible

This is a train that will run for the Olympic Games

”scheduled for Paris in 2024 told AFP Alain Krakovitch last July, specifying that the first model deliveries will take place in winter 2023. On this occasion, the SNCF had presented the first

"cauldron"

, that is to say the outer casing of the train in Alstom's workshops in La Rochelle. The parts are now assembled at the Belfort site.

In addition to its ecological ambition, the TGV M is also more modern with the possibility of adjusting the number of cars (7, 8 or 9) or even transforming a first-class space into a second. It will be able to accommodate 740 passengers against 600 at most today, an increase of 20% of the surface on board. Attention has also been paid to the accessibility of these new trains so that this can be done in complete autonomy thanks to a collaboration with associations of wheelchair users (UFR).
