Engineer Hussein Arnous, Prime Minister, chaired today a meeting at the Ministry of Industry focusing on the reality of the industrial public sector and ways to enhance its work, advance it, restore its luster, and secure all its requirements to continue the production of various basic materials and commodities and secure the local market’s need, as it is one of the basic components of the national economy in parallel with the development of Its legislative structure is to meet the requirements of the current stage and to contribute to confronting the unjust economic siege imposed on Syria.

Engineer Arnous stressed the importance of setting priorities accurately and embodying the slogan “Hope for Action” on the ground and making all possibilities to raise production capacity, exploit human, material and financial resources in all industrial and craft sites, reduce production costs, reduce waste of time, supplies and raw materials, reduce import, and create an intellectual and productive base that is As a starting point for optimal investment of all industrial public sector facilities and to be able to localize modern technology in this sector in a manner that ensures increased profitability in terms of quantity and quality.

The Prime Minister called for the establishment of specialized units that include qualitative competencies in each plant and factory whose mission is to find solutions to the various obstacles to the production process, to place the right people in the administrative joints, to take the right decisions based on the interest of the country and the citizen, and to ensure the building of an integrated national industrial sector between the public and private sectors that ensures keeping away from Destructive competition, noting that the private sector is a strategic partner in the work and must be supported and facilities provided for it.

Arnous pointed to the need to train and qualify cadres and support the institutions of the Ministry of Industry with quality employment, pointing out that vacancies will be announced for engineers who have not been screened during the coming period.

The Minister of Industry, Ziad Sabbagh, gave a presentation on the reality of the Syrian industry in the public and private sectors, the economic indicators of the ministry, the status of employment in it, the completed and ongoing works, including working to increase the production capacities of cement factories, reviving contract agriculture with the aim of agricultural industrialization, and the completion of contract projects to rehabilitate and invest a number of companies.

The attendees stressed the importance of setting specific, traceable and measurable plans according to specific time schedules with regard to production and marketing ratios, restarting production, linking incentives to production, and investing all investable industrial facilities in a manner that serves the development process and contributes to improving the indicators of the national economy while strengthening partnership with the private sector in relation to enterprises. Emphasis was placed on international cooperation projects with friendly countries to establish industrial partnerships that would enable the integration of markets and investment of assets in the public sector. The Ministry of Industry was also tasked with submitting a follow-up report on the outcomes of the meeting within a maximum period of one month to show the percentages of achievement. A workshop was held for each institution to study the reality of the companies affiliated with the Ministry and to raise Appropriate proposals to address their situation while it was decided to form a committee to communicate with Syrian businessmen abroad and solve the obstacles that hinder the return of their investments to the country.

The meeting was attended by the Ministers of Economy, Foreign Trade and Finance, the Chairman of the Planning and International Cooperation Authority, the Secretary-General of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, the President of the General Federation of Trade Unions, and a number of heads of professional federations and concerned managers in the ministry.
