SNCF CEO Jean-Pierre Farandou wants to "
double the number of travelers in ten years on trains
" so that the share of railways thus ensures 20% of trips in France, he said in an interview with the
Journal du dimanche
.
Today, “
only 10% of people choose the train, while 85% still take the car.
I want ten years from now, (the car's share) to drop to 75% and (the train's) to 20%.
This implies doubling the number of passengers on the trains in ten years
, ”says Mr. Farandou.

“
I want volume!
», He hammered, still with the JDD.
The public company must present Tuesday a new price range "
simpler, more readable and clearer
" with "
moderate prices until the last days before departure
".
At the beginning of May, the railway group had made a first series of announcements to win back its travelers as summer approached.
Among them, low-cost tickets - in detail, nearly 5 million tickets were sold for a maximum of 39 euros between May 3 and 19.
"
The train must not lose its popular character
", underlines the boss of the SNCF.
In particular, it envisages "
the creation of differentiated spaces on board trains
", with "
several travel atmospheres
", and an effort on connections allowing people to travel from door to door.
Focus on renewable energies
The challenge of doubling the train's market share is “
commercial and ecological
” because a TGV pollutes 50 times less than a car and 80 times less than a plane, he recalls.

On the ecological front, "
SNCF wants to become the leading producer of renewable energy in France,
" said the manager: "
We are fortunate to have a vast free land heritage, that is to say thousands of hectares available to install solar panels.
We can have 50 very concrete projects by 2025,
”he explains.
“
We want to produce 20% of our consumption ourselves in five years,
” says Farandou.
