The Board of Directors of the General Foundation for Feed has set the purchase price of barley from farmers at 880 Syrian pounds per kilogram, plus the price of bags.
General Director of the Foundation, Abdul Karim Shabat, said in a statement to SANA that the purchase price of the barley crop was raised to 880 Syrian pounds, after it was 800 pounds, in addition to giving the farmer the price of the bags, whether old or new, considering that the new price is “very appropriate” for the farmer.
Shabbat confirmed that the institution is ready to receive the crop from the farmers, and that several centers have been opened to receive the crop from all governorates, noting that the price of the crop will be delivered within 24 hours of the delivery of the material.
February pointed out that the aim of raising the price is to encourage farmers to sell their crop to the Corporation and to secure their needs of barley to provide it to the livestock herd during the winter season, and to secure the needs of the Corporation’s fodder manufacturing plants, especially that the agricultural crops “wheat and barley” planted in rainforest have been affected by climatic changes this year. In another context, February indicated that the Corporation had recently imported 90,000 tons of yellow maize, 30,000 of which were distributed to the Corporation's centers.
Last March, the Council of Ministers decided to raise the purchase price of the wheat crop from farmers for the 2021 season to 900 Syrian pounds per kilogram: 800 pounds as the purchase price with a bonus of 100 pounds per kilogram for those who market their wheat to the centers of the Grain Corporation.
